The Madigan Trilogy

Celtic Language

The use of Celtic folklore and the Irish and Celtic languages is an important element of The Madigan Trilogy. Everything from who they are, what they represent, and who they fight was inspired, in some way, from aspects of this culture.

While the most apparent connection is the Madigan Family; Kenley, Trigg, and Bryn represent the third generation of decedents from Irish immigrants, Eammon and Maud Madigan, the Irish and Celtic cultures and languages are deeply imbedded throughout the Madigan Trilogy.

The use and meaning may be hidden, such as the names of each key character, or it may be obvious, such as who they are - the Caomhnóir (guardian), their guide - Múin, and who they fight - the Maraigh (Kill).

In addition, the ancient Celtic religion of Ogam, with a presence still existing today, influenced many elements of the story; from their special powers (the Draíocht), to subtle details of the Conclave of the Léirigh and the Council of the Múin.
